Allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis
If you have a runny or stuffy nose, sneeze frequently associated with itchy or watery eyes, you may possibly be suffering from allergies. Orandi Allergy offers a comprehensive allergy evaluation that includes testing for pollen from trees, weeds and grass as well as molds, pet dander, dust mites and more. There are many treatments for these symptoms which include nose sprays, oral medications and allergy shots (immunotherapy).
Food allergies
Having a food allergy can be a significant hindrance no matter how old you are. Food allergies can be fatal if not recognized soon enough. If you develop hives, runny nose, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, vomiting, diarrhea or lightheadedness after eating a specific food, you should be evaluated and be prescribed an epinephrine injector. This could potentially save your life and is the mainstay of therapy for a food reaction.
Immunodeficiencies
Immunodeficiencies tend to cause recurrent infections and are fatal if not appropriately treated. There are multiple diagnostic tests to evaluate your immune system so a comprehensive workup is recommended for anyone that has repeated infections.
Eczema
If you suffer from dry, red or flaky skin, you may be suffering from eczema. Eczema is a chronic, relapsing skin condition characterized by itching and skin breakdown. There are multiple treatment modalities and therapy is tailored to each individual. Children with early onset eczema should be evaluated by an allergist as they are at increased risk for food allergies, specifically peanut.
Contact dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is a delayed reaction to products that touch your skin. It's commonly associated with nickel and other substances but skin breakdown, itching and burning can occur in other areas that do not directly touch the compound. A detailed history and patch testing help determine the true cause of the reaction.
Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis is an acute reaction to an antigen that can lead to respiratory or cardiovascular collapse and death. It can be caused by a variety of things including medications and foods, or less commonly for no reason at all. Finding the root cause is the most important element to preventing an episode and treatment with epinephrine is required.
Asthma
Whether it's exercise-induced, allergy related or isolated, asthma can present as wheezing, shortness of breath, cough or chest tightness. It can occur at any age and when adequately treated, should not cause any limitations. When untreated, asthma can be fatal and requires regular visits to monitor lung function.
Hives
Hives are red, raised and itchy lesions that appear on the skin. They frequently come after an illness or during times of emotional or physical stress. In some cases, hives are associated with systemic vasculitis, which is a group of diseases that affect the blood vessels.
Angioedema
Angioedema is a condition that is characterized by swelling in various parts of the body. It can be hereditary, acquired or related to other diseases or medications. This condition can occur at anytime and treatment is often required to prevent mortality.
